The correct way to do any of this would have been to heat the frame up for everything, for stretching the frame apart as well as bending the struts back in place, less stress is always best. In the “less than desirable” instructions that came with the kit, the only time heat is mentioned is when you start pulling the fender strut area back together and in line, says your suppose to heat it up in the process.
If you went with the Dragon kit then you will have your work cut out for you, kinda like goin’ on a scavenger hunt, but it’s all doable in the end. So it looks like the only tune up tinkering I might have to do is with the idle once I’ve had a chance to get it good and hot. I basically just put the timing back right where it was at originally and she fired right up. Good crisp throttle response with no hesitation whatsoever. When idling it almost sounds like it still has the baffles in place, but as soon as you twist the throttle you get this nice loud blast of exhaust.
The wife came out in the garage when she heard it and said it sounded really great, almost like my old Fatboy, but I'd attribute that mostly to the gutted fishfin muffler bodies and torque cones (it had the same setup). Cranked ‘er up for the first time today with all the new performance shit in place.
